WildeRust is located in a fenced 4.5-hectare domain, with woods, meadows, and ponds. You will meet curious alpacas (Albertha and Napo, Lady and Leon, Elvis and Jeanne) and three-legged goats (Mackie and Noma), frogs, squirrels, hedgehogs, fish in the pond during a refreshing swim or while dangling your feet in the water from the dock, Figaro our wild cat, and maybe even one or two herons. Let yourself be guided by the babbling of the Basseville brook that flows through the domain after rainfall... it will lead you directly into the woods through our gate. Our place is located right next to the parking lot of the Zandvoordebos, one of the 7 forests that make up the Gasthuisbossen.

🌿 Nature: Escaping the hustle and bustle
The surroundings of Zillebeke are a green lung in West Flanders, perfect for nature lovers and those seeking peace and quiet.
Tips:
Our domain is located at hiking junction 81 and cycling junction 42. From there, explore the Flanders Route, the Hill Route, or join the Front Route 14-18 (less than 500m from the Poekapelle-Mesen stage) or the Peace Cycling Route in Ypres (less than 8km) further on.
Move freely or via walking nodes through the Zandvoorde forest and the surrounding fields nearby.
Has it been raining heavily and is the forest ground too muddy? A loop via the asphalt roads around the domain takes you on a route of about 4km through trees and fields, in the valley and on the hill.
The Gasthuisbossenwandelroute is a signposted walking route of 10.6 km starting in Ypres. This route connects to Zwarte Leen, Groenenburg and Zandvoordebos, and offers a varied landscape with forests and heathland.
The Palingbeek is accessible through the forests. On site, it is also wonderful to walk and cycle. You will find a cafeteria, a playground, a care farm, a local nut company, historical information, and much more. Walking in Palingbeek
By bike within a radius of 8-12km you reach Mesen and Heuvelland. Our place is an excellent starting point for bike trips to the famous West Flemish Hills. Climb the Zwarteberg at 8km, the Rodeberg and Mesenberg at 10km, and the Kemmelberg at 12km.
Astrolab IRIS (Ieper Observatory): For astronomy enthusiasts, Astrolab IRIS is a surprising destination, featuring among other things the largest solar telescope in the Benelux.
Would you like to be on the water? This is possible with a canoe or boat on a 10km route (starting from Diksmuide), along the Yser north of Ypres. Here you will experience calm waters with beautiful nature along the banks, polder land, historical sites from WWI, birdwatching points, etc.
o Do you want to go further? Drive 46km and you'll smell and hear the sea in De Panne - the Belgian and French coastlines are beckoning!
🌿 Historical Visits: A Journey Through Time
Zillebeke and Ypres are steeped in history, from prehistory to modern times. Ypres is world-famous for its role in World War I. Visit, among others, these places to understand the history:
o Lakenhalle (UNESCO World Heritage)
The Cloth Hall played a crucial role in the economic and cultural prosperity of the city of Ypres during the Middle Ages. Today, you can also find the Flanders Fields Museum here, a poignant and captivating museum that tells the war history of the region - interesting for young and old alike!
The Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate.
Every evening at 8:00 PM, the Last Post is sounded in memory of the fallen soldiers, surrounded by the names of approximately 55,000 British and Commonwealth soldiers who went missing in action around Ypres during World War I (1914–1918) and never received a known grave. A powerful ritual that you should not miss.
In and around Ypres, you can also find preserved trenches and bunkers and memorial sites that provide a realistic picture of life on the front line, including the Hill 62 Sanctuary Wood Museum, the Hill 60 Memorial Site, the Yorkshire Trench and Dugout, Coming World Remember Me (in Palingbeek), the Mine Crater 7/6/1917 Caterpillar, the memorials on the Ypres Ramparts, and more.

Do you like blueberries? Pick them yourself in the picking field of Blueberry Hill 62 (3.7km). Open in July and August depending on when the berries say it's time.
Cheese? Follow a cheese-making workshop at De Oude Kaasmakerij in Passendale (10km).
A beer? Visit the Kazematten brewery in Ypres, the monks of the Sint-Sixtus abbey in Westvleteren or the Sint Bernardus brewery in Watou.
A glass of wine or the landscapes filled with vineyards? Explore the vineyards in the area, including Den Nachtegael in Zonnebeke, Wijngoed Monteberg in Dranouter, Entre-deux-Monts in Westouter (walking route), and many more (via the Vintage Heuvelland cycling route)!

The museum takes its name from the art collector, anthroposophist and agricultural pioneer Marie Tak van Poortvliet (1871-1936), who in the early twentieth century had a villa built in Domburg and spent many summers there in the company of the painter Jacoba van Heemskerck (1876-1923). Zeeland seemed to naturally to attract artists, this attraction was enhanced by the unsophisticated beauty of the surroundings, the special light along the coast and its reflection over the land have inspired many poets, composers and writers, but also – and above all – painters.

Neeltje Jans is a flat, chop, small and medium waves spot. It is a kitesurfing spot for riders of any level. The water theme park here is a well-known visitor attraction, but only a few know that there is also a fantastic surf spot on the island north of the barrier. At high tide, you can rip the wide surf belt against a lonely dune backdrop, but don't go too far out because of the current! At low tide a big shallow area forms, ideal for kiting – although the approach of over 500m will probably ensure that purists remain among themselves here in the future.Â
